The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation has confirmed
a deadline of November 15 for the employers to attain the Universal Account
Number (UAN) of employees before filing their electronic-challan-cum return
(ECR). This is the part of the implementation of
the next version of the UAN or UAN 2.0.
This in effect means
that all the contributing members should have UAN, in the absence of which the
employer will not be able to remit the dues in respect of these members. (PTI)
Implementation of the UAN
2.0 requires the allotment of the UAN directly and the ECR can be filed only in
case of such members where the UAN has either been allotted to the member or
the previous UAN has been linked to his present employment.
On 27th
October, in a communication to the field offices, Additional Central
Provident Fund Commissioner has pointed out that under the existing process,
the employer has to declare whether is the first-time employment of member to attain
his new UAN or link the UAN or the previous members ID in case, if the new
employee has a previous EPF membership. This happens only after the ECR has
been submitted by the employer. The system analyzes the new Ids in the present
ECR vis-a-vis the previous ECR and pushes the same to the employer portal for the
declaration.
The EPFO launched the UAN
program in 2014 to provide one umbrella number to the members for all the
employments of an EPF member. The next version of the UAN will associate
generation/linking of UAN of the members in his various employments and its combination
with the next version of the ECR and Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Protsahan Yojana
(PMRPY) scheme.
