Aadhaar’s Deadline has been extended to 31st of December to avail social advantages

On Wednesday, the Centre told the Supreme Court (SC) that the deadline has been extended to 31st of December from the 30th of September for Aadhaar mandatory, to avail the social advantages.



Mr. K K Venugopal, the Attorney General (AG), on behalf the Centre made this statement to the Supreme Court bench when petitioners desire an early hearing on appeals of challenging Aadhaar's validity, following last week's top court judgment acknowledging privacy a fundamental right.

As for the petitions challenging Aadhaar, the SC permitted to list them for hearing in the first week of November.

In fact, the AG requested the SC bench which is headed by the chief justice Dipak Mishra, to list these petitions before a 5-judge Constitution bench rather than a 3-judge one.

On 27th of June 27, the deadline for mandatory Aadhaar for social advantages was extended to 30th of September from 30th of June. Also the SC said that there will be no freeze on the government notification which makes the Aadhaar mandatory for Social Advantage schemes. The top court was hearing a petition which expressed suspicion that those students who have been deprive of mid-day meals, if Aadhaar is made mandatory.

On 27th of June, the SC said that no order can pass just on the basis of apprehension.
